Am I correct in assuming that not all the triangles are equilateral? Have you thought of any ways to use it as a building block for a more complicated structure?

You are correct; I’m not sure if any of the triangles are equilateral. Also, your “building block” idea is interesting. I’ll have to give it some thought.
