An Octahedron Made of Lux Blox

This is the first model I built with Lux Blox, a modeling-system I’ve been checking out. If you’d like to try Lux for yourself, the website to visit to get them is https://www.luxblox.com/.

This is an octahedron with an edge length of two. The eight triangular faces are blue, while the edges of the octahedron are orange. Apart from their colors, all these pieces are identical — the basic Lux block, also known as a Lux square. With just this one block, you can build literally millions of things. I’m into polyhedra, so that’s what I’ll be building a lot of, but someone obsessed with dinosaurs could build models of those, as well. Lux Blox are that versatile.

A Toroidal Truncated Icosahedron

Augmented Rhombic Triaconta

The components of this toroid are sixty rhombic triacontahedra, as well as ninety rhombic prisms with lateral edges three times as long as their base edges. I made this using Stella 4d, which you can try for free at http://www.software3d.com/Stella.php.

Holy Saturday with COVID-19 and “Jesus Christ Superstar”

I’m spending this odd, COVID-19-dominated Holy Saturday inside, watching Jesus Christ Superstar. This was actually one of my primary information-sources regarding Christianity before it occurred to me to read the New Testament for myself, in my early twenties. The Compound of Five Rhombic Dodecahedra

This is the compound of five rhombic dodecahedra, with each component shown in a different color. This is one of the few well-known polyhedral compounds which is actually more attractive with the faces hidden, and that’s what’s shown in the next image.

A Fifty-Faced Symmetrohedron Featuring Twenty Regular Hexagons and Six Squares, Along with 24 Isosceles Trapezoids

Symmetrohedra are symmetrical polyhedra which have many (but not necessarily all) faces regular. The only irregular faces in this polyhedron are the blue isosceles trapezoids.

A Rhombic Triacontahedron, Covered with Tessellations

The tessellations of the faces of this rhombic triacontahedron first appeared in my last post here. For putting the whole thing together and creating this rotating .gif, I used a program called Stella 4d. If you want to, you can try Stella for free at this website.

Oblique All-Square Tessellation #2

The first of these used the center of a square as the center of rotation. This one, by contrast, uses an intersection as the center of rotation. In each case, 45 degrees is the angle used.
